Not your chokladbullar. These bullar come with a tang!

IF you have been making chokladbullar, you know that it is a super duper easy recipe to follow. So, here is another bullar recipe that does not use chocolate but tastes just as yummy.

The original recipe calls for lime but I prefer lemon. So I substituted lime for lemon. What is the difference, you asked?

Same same but different

Well, we both know that lime and lemon are two of the most popular citrus fruits used in many recipes. Although they may have many similarities, they are indeed different.

Lime and lemon are closely related like erm...distant cousins.

Both lime and lemon, be it fresh or processed, are used in a number of different industries such as cosmetics, culinary, medicine and household applications as according to Healthline.com .

They share similar nutritional values and potential health benefits.

We are taught that citrus fruits are good source of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties and high in Vitamin C.

Limes are generally bright green while lemons are normally bright yellow. However, there are certain types of limes that will turn yellow as they ripen which makes it a little challenging to distinguish.

Limes are smaller and rounder whereas lemons are oblong or oval.

Flavour wise? They are both acidic and sour but lemons taste sweeter while limes are slightly more bitter.

Now, back to the recipe.

As I mentioned earlier, I am using lemon instead of lime.

What you need:

100g butter, at room temperature

1dl caster sugar

1tsk vanilla essence or vaniljsocker

1dl desiccated coconut; set aside extra coconut in a plate or small bowl for coating.

Just a small amount will do.

3dl rolled oats or instant oats or quick oats (texture of the balls varies depending

on the oats you used; I'm using instant oats)

1msk water

1 lemon; scrape the lemon to obtain the zest and squeeeeeze out the juice.

1-2msk lemon juice (adjust according to your likings).

This is how we do it:

  1. Mix together butter and sugar.

  2. Add in vanilla essence, coconut, oats, water, lemon juice and lemon zest.

  3. Form into bite size balls in your palm and roll them in the coconut.

  4. Keep them in the fridge or freezer.

I have grown to love Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Essence. I first discovered it when I was shopping for ingredients to make a cake in Edinburgh. My cake turned out WOW! The flavour was just amazing!! I never knew I could bake a cake like that!! That's when I realised it was the ingredients that I used to bake the cake. Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Essence makes all the difference. Since then, I have been using it for all my bakings since 2015. Try it! You will taste the difference.

Disclaimer: I am not, in any way, sponsored by Nielsen-Massey but good things must share, eller hur?
